My friendship with Gloria Steinem began in 1967 while I was leading the grape boycott in New York. She was a strong supporter of the farm worker’s fight for justice.
Gloria Steinem was my friend, my mentor, partner, and my hermana in the movement. She taught me about a woman’s right to choose. She helped me and other Latinas identify as feminists, fighting for social, political and economic power for women, especially women of color. I was proud to work alongside her over the years to elevate the power of women everywhere.
She leaves behind a generation of women who will carry on her work. Si se puede.
