David Valadao Turned His Back on the Central Valley

Community members gather to protest cuts to Medicaid

Congressman David Valadao had a choice. He could have stood with the families of the Central Valley. Instead, he voted for the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill,” which delivers devastating cuts to the programs our communities rely on the most.

Valadao’s vote is a betrayal of the people he was elected to serve.

What the Big Beautiful Bill Will Do

  •  Cut $880 billion from Medicaid (Medi-Cal in California)
  • Put 65,000 people in Valadao’s district at risk of losing healthcare
  • Strip food assistance from 60,000 households
  • Eliminate 6,900 local healthcare jobs
  • Fund massive tax breaks for billionaires and big corporations

These cuts will hurt seniors, children, veterans, people with disabilities, and working families across the Central Valley. Hospitals will close. Emergency rooms will overflow. Health care will become more expensive for everyone.

Valadao Ignored His District

Two out of three of Valadao’s constituents rely on Medi-Cal. They wrote letters. They made calls. They fasted outside his office. And he still voted yes.

His decision wasn’t just a vote — it was a betrayal.

What We Do Next

We do what we’ve always done: we organize.

The Dolores Huerta Foundation and partners across the region are mobilizing to protect our communities and demand real investment — in housing, schools, healthcare, and safety, not incarceration and deportation.
