Position Title: Volunteer  
Location: Kern County
Reports to: Resource Center Coordinator
The Organization:  The Dolores Huerta Foundation will establish community-based (resource & referral) centers in Bakersfield, Sanger, Lamont, Tulare, California City, and Antelope Valley in order to provide low-cost services and referrals to Vecinos Unidos, yout,h and community members. The service centers will uphold DHF’s values in the promotion of economic security, legal and civil rights, and self-empowerment. DHF will implement a plan to train and develop volunteers to process services and referral requests. The Service Centers will function as a community aid center for their respective communities in alignment with DHF’s Vecinos Unidos membership program
Position Summary 
While volunteering is not a paid role with the Dolores Huerta Foundation, volunteers are very similar to employees and are valued just the same!
In this role, Volunteers will join Community Organizers to coordinate and service Resource Centers. Volunteers will be trained to identify community members via intake forms that are being challenged to provide essential food and needs to their selves and their family.
What’s a Volunteer Role within DHF?
  • Assist with multiple programs including wellness and educational courses
  • Plays a big role in planning and organizing events
  • Complete assessments of community members to identify essential needs are being met
  • Upholds DHF’s values
  • Performs other resource duties as assigned.
Who can be a Volunteer?
A Volunteer is a person who ‘voluntarily’ expresses a willingness to do a service.
Anyone can become a Volunteer! Including:
  • High School Students
  • College Students
  • All Community Members
What hours do volunteers work?
Volunteer shifts depend on the Volunteer’s availability.
Volunteer assignment duration will vary based on the activities, priority and goals of the program.
Assignments that a volunteer may do:
  • Food Banks
  • Community Outreach
  • Teaching others a skill to enrich the community and program
  • Preparing materials for upcoming events

Attend Training – Learn more about your role and  policies related to volunteers by attending a volunteer orientation meeting organized Gabriela Fernandez and Kelley Herrera HR Director
What to do:
  • Before a volunteer assignment – Add the day and time of your volunteer assignment to your calendar. If you are unable to participate as planned, remember to contact the organizer in good time so that another volunteer can be recruited.
    Plan to arrive early for your assignment so you can understand the assignment  before heading to the activity or event.
  • During a volunteer assignment – Take time to review what the volunteer job entails with the organizer and ask questions to clarify the assignment including who does what, how breaks are handled, and what is expected. To ensure the success of larger events, be prepared to be flexible and assist where needed.
  • After a volunteer assignment – Provide feedback on the volunteer survey so that organizers can update programs, activities, or events so the next one runs smoother. Attend the volunteer recognition event and sign up for other volunteer opportunities to stay connected with DHF and support our community in future events.

  • Bi-lingual (Spanish/English) a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to speak, write and present information in a clear, concise, and compelling manner tailored to the particular audience
