California will not accept the Billionaire’s Bill

Together, we can!

Republicans like Rep. David Valadao ignored the voices and needs of his own constituents by voting yes on a dangerous federal budget bill yesterday. The Dolores Huerta Foundation says: shame on you, Rep. Valadao. The people of California’s 22nd Congressional District deserve better—and we are deeply disappointed.

This bill is not yet law—but it is a ticking time bomb, threatening to strip people of access to healthcare, resources, gender affirming care and more. If this bill is passed people will go hungry. People will die.

If passed, it would:

  • Hurt working families and widen the gap between the rich and poor.
  • Impose unfair work requirements on elderly and disabled people just to access Medicaid.
  • Strip health coverage from 8.6 million people nationwide.
  • Leave millions of trans and gender non-conforming people without access to live saving gender affirming care.

My medication is $900 a month. I’m on Medicaid, and I’m working now, but if anything happens to me I won’t be able to survive. I’m scared for my future.

What does this really mean for our communities? Let’s break it down.

  • Stricter SNAP restrictions could result in 3 million people—including families and children—losing their monthly food assistance.
  • While this bill adds $3.8 trillion to the federal deficit, it would cut resources for the lowest-income households—while raising taxes on people making under $157,000. That means the income gap will only grow wider.
  • This bill will ban gender affirming care to Medicaid recipients.
  • Racist and xenophobic policies would receive billions in funding.
    • $150 billion to the Pentagon for the so-called “Golden Dome.”
    • Increased funding for ICE and mass deportations under the banner of “border security.”

We have to keep fighting and standing up for each other—because we, the people, still have a voice. And we can stop this wave of devastation.

In California, it’s likely that Senators Schiff and Padilla will oppose the bill—but we must urge them to publicly denounce it, rally their colleagues, and stand up to protect Medicaid and SNAP.

We’re all in this together. And together, we can win.
