May Day is Our Day! Workers Demand Fair Pay, Rights and Respect

DSC 9738

May 1st is May Day, also known as International Workers’ Day.  May Day is a day of action and a day to commemorate the struggle for workers’ rights and the lives that have been lost in the fights for workplace equity and fairness. This struggle continues on today. At the Dolores Huerta Foundation, we believe every person should be treated fairly. Everyone deserves a safe job, fair pay, and respect.

Why May Day Matters

Workers are the people who keep our communities strong. They grow our food, build our homes, take care of our families, and keep our cities running.

But far too often, they are underpaid, overworked, and pushed to the margins—especially immigrants, undocumented workers, and people of color.

We know that’s not right. And we’re not standing by. On May Day, we raise our voices for justice.

The Dolores Huerta Foundation is still fighting to make things better. Today, people all over the country will march and speak out. We want change.

What We’re Fighting For

  • Fair pay for every worker
  • Safe workplaces with respect and dignity
  • Rights for immigrant workers
  • Affordable housing, health care, and education for all
  • A stronger voice for communities that are often left out

How You Can Take Action

Even small actions can make a big difference. Here’s what you can do:

Share stories of workers in your community

Talk to friends and family about why May Day matters

Support local groups who are fighting for justice

Vote and help others register to vote
