The Organization
The Dolores Huerta Foundation (DHF) is a growing 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission is to inspire and organize communities to build volunteer organizations empowered to pursue social justice. DHF is based in Bakersfield, California. We organize in the counties of Tulare, Fresno, Kern, and the high desert area of Los Angeles County. We are seeking Student Success Mentors who are passionate about supporting this work.

Position Summary
The Education Organizer plays a key role in supporting the foundation’s mission to empower community members through education, training, and advocacy. This role focuses on mobilizing parents, students, and community stakeholders to engage in local school district advocacy efforts, ensuring that their voices are heard in decisions that affect education. The organizer will work to build leadership skills within the community, encourage participation in school board meetings, and drive initiatives that promote equity in education.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the Education Policy Director with planning and coordination of education programming, projects, and/or campaigns.
  • Develop sustainable partnerships with organizations working on education justice.
  • Maintain analysis and oversight of Local Control Accountability Plans in targeted school districts, including but not limited to: Arvin, Union, Lamont, Vineland, Greenfield Union,
  • Woodlake Unified, Lindsay Unified, Parlier Unified, Sanger Unified, Kern High, Bakersfield City, Mojave Unified, Lancaster Unified, Palmdale Unified, Antelope Valley.
  • Research and compile data including restorative justice, mental health, and school climate to inform and support DHF education program initiatives.
  • Develop expertise in school climate, parent engagement, and school district policies and practices to support DHF’s advocacy work.
  • Assist with developing student and parent trainings to engage in education advocacy and civic engagement
  • Facilitate trainings for parents and other community members on a variety of civic engagement and education curriculum in both Spanish and English.
  • Create content for newsletters and various social media platforms to update community members and partners on our work.

EDUCATION
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

  • Graduate from an accredited college
  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate
  • 2+ Years’ experience in a community outreach role preferred
  • Social justice advocacy experience preferred
  • Experience and passion for community organizing
  • Superior interpersonal skills and ability to communicate professionally with a culturally diverse group
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills and the ability to prioritize workload to complete assignments with many deadlines and competing requirements.
