Please join us on November 18th from 5:00-6:30pm for the San Joaquin Valley Health Fund’s 2025 Policy Briefing (the event will be via Zoom).
The 2025 Policy Briefing will focus on the critical issue shaping the health and wellbeing of our region: the public health impacts of private immigrant detention centers.
Just this year, California experienced an 84% increase in immigrant detention, with the San Joaquin Valley emerging as a central hub for expansion. This growing network of private detention centers raises pressing concerns about health outcomes, not only for those detained, but also for the surrounding communities affected by pollution, strained infrastructure systems and economic inequities. The briefing will feature public health and policy experts, community advocates and directly impacted residents who will share data, stories and policy recommendations to address these urgent concerns.
Panelists include:
- Grisel Ruiz: Senior Managing Attorney, Immigrant Legal Resource Center
- Dr. Pacheco-Werner: Executive Director, Central Valley Health Policy Institute
- Lourdes M. Medina: Advocacy and Communications Associate, Services, Immigrant Rights & Education Network (SIREN)
- Jeannie Parent: Executive Director, Kern Welcoming and Extending Solidarity to Immigrants (KWESI)
