Bakersfield considers $300K grant for Dolores Huerta Foundation project

The City of Bakersfield is evaluating a proposed $300,000 grant for the Dolores Huerta Foundation’s downtown cultural center. If approved, the funding aims to promote economic activity, enhance infrastructure, and improve the quality of life in the downtown area.

Andrae Gonzales, Ward 2 City Council Member, said, “We understand that we are making investments to help the community and making very targeted and strategic investments so that we can see long-term reutilization of downtown, maybe so beyond the next two years, five years, ten years from now.”

The grant is part of the city’s Downtown Revitalization Incentive Program, which provides funding for qualified projects.

The Dolores Huerta Foundation plans to use the funds for off-site improvements.
