Position Title: Youth Program Organizer
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Location: Kern County
Reports to: Youth Program Director
Payrate: $23.08/hour

The Organization
The Dolores Huerta Foundation (DHF) is a growing 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission is to inspire and organize communities to build volunteer organizations empowered to pursue social justice. DHF is based in Bakersfield, California. We organize in the counties of Tulare, Fresno, Kern, and the high desert area of Los Angeles County.

Position Summary
Youth Organizer will work to increase civic participation among low-income, underrepresented youth and their families. Youth Organizer will be responsible for recruiting and working with a cohort of 50 diverse youth; develop classes, trainings, activities; and implement civic engagement projects to develop ethics, moral character, and leadership skills necessary for academic, civic and workforce success.

Position Responsibilities:
Youth Engagement and Recruitment

  • Build relationships with youth in the community, schools, and organizations.
  • Recruit youth participants for programs, workshops, and advocacy efforts.
  • Create safe and inclusive spaces for youth to express their concerns and ideas.

Leadership Development

  • Provide leadership training and development programs to help young people become effective advocates and organizers.
  • Facilitate workshops and training sessions on topics such as civic engagement, social justice, public speaking, and conflict resolution.
  • Mentor and guide youth in developing their organizing and advocacy skills.

Program Development and Facilitation

  • Design, plan, and implement youth-focused programs and initiatives.
  • Coordinate community outreach events, youth-led campaigns, and educational activities.
  • Ensure that programs are responsive to the needs and interests of youth participants.

Advocacy and Campaign Coordination

  • Work with youth to identify issues they are passionate about, such as education, climate change, racial justice, or voting rights.
  • Support youth in organizing campaigns, protests, or advocacy initiatives on local or national issues.
  • Connect youth with policymakers, community leaders, and other organizations to amplify their voices.

Community Building

  • Foster collaboration and partnerships with local schools, community organizations, and other youth groups.
  • Encourage young people to take on leadership roles in their communities and become agents of change.
  • Support youth in developing strong networks and relationships with peers and mentors.

Youth-Led Projects and Events

  • Assist youth in creating and leading their own projects or community-based initiatives.
  • Provide resources, guidance, and logistical support for youth-led events, including rallies, forums, or public speaking engagements.

EDUCATION
Required Competencies:

  • Graduate from an accredited college
  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as
    appropriate
  • 2+ Years’ experience in a community outreach role preferred
  • Social justice advocacy experience preferred
  • Experience and passion for community organizing
  • Superior interpersonal skills and ability to communicate professionally with a culturally diverse
    group
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills and the ability to prioritize workload to
    complete assignments with many deadlines and competing requirements
