The Dolores Huerta Peace and Justice Cultural Center Capital Campaign

The Dolores Huerta Peace and Justice Cultural Center Capital Campaign

In 2019, the Dolores Huerta Foundation set out to make a bold vision a reality: to build the Dolores Huerta Peace and Justice Cultural Center within Dolores’s lifetime. Thanks to the generosity of our community and key partners, we have already achieved incredible milestones.

  • $34.8 million raised — including $15 million from the California legislature, an additional $7 million to meet rising costs, and further contributions from supporters like you.

  • Groundbreaking in June 2025 — a historic moment as we began construction in the heart of Downtown Bakersfield.

A Center for Justice, Culture, and Community

When complete, this multi-use campus will:

  • Serve as the headquarters of the Dolores Huerta Foundation.

  • House a rotating art installations making downtown a travel destination.

  • Create a vibrant multicultural community space for arts, events, and connection.

  • Launch an organizing institute to train grassroots leaders from across the nation.

This is more than a building — it’s a home for the movement. It will revitalize our downtown, attract visitors from across the country, and honor Dolores’s lifelong fight for justice and equality.
