This historic summit will see the release of the South Central Valley Community Needs Assessment (CNA) report, drawn from the largest survey of its kind, with major stakeholders to discuss its policy implications and recommendations.
The Dolores Huerta Foundation and the Community and Labor Center conducted a survey with nearly 4,000 residents from Fresno, Kern, Kings, and Tulare counties. The resulting report, the South Central Valley Community Needs Assessment, is the largest academic, representative survey in the region, and one of the only studies to analyze citizenship status in relation to employment and community needs.
The South Central Valley CNA report provides an unprecedented and comprehensive community-informed snapshot of the challenges facing residents in the region. Residents were asked about environmental and labor challenges, and shared their perspectives on remedies for unmet needs including work; access to good jobs, healthcare, food, and recreational spaces; and barriers to participate in civic action.
The South Central Valley CNA report release will highlight undocumented immigrant and farmworkers’ contributions to one of the state’s largest industries – agriculture, and advance public discussions on how to improve investments in one of the nation’s most disadvantaged regions.
