Border Patrol in Our Backyards: We Must Speak Out

DSC 9729

A recent CalMatters article highlights something deeply troubling that our communities already know: Border Patrol is expanding its reach into California’s Central Valley, Kern County has been hardest hit, with stops tallying in the thousands over recent months.

Why this matters:

  • These so-called “interior enforcement” actions are happening far from the border.
  • Many stops are racially motivated and target Latinx and immigrant communities.

Most troubling of all:

77 out of 78 people detained during a recent 3-day raid had no prior criminal or immigration history, according to data obtained from the Department of Homeland Security.

The message is clear; our most vulnerable communities are being unjustly targeted. This isn’t just about immigration, it’s about our civil rights, our dignity, and the freedom of our communities to live without fear.

Our Communities Deserve Protection, Not Persecution

At the Dolores Huerta Foundation we reject the normalization of Border Patrol’s presence in our neighborhoods. No one should feel unsafe going to work, school, or even the grocery store because of the color of their skin or where they were born. We stand with immigrant families, essential workers, and all those who call the Central Valley home. And we invite you to join us.

 ¡Si Se Puede!
