Position Title: Communications Director
FLSA Status: Exempt; Full-time
Location: Hybrid: Remote/Office
Reports to: Executive Director
Salary Range: $75,000 – $95,000


The Organization: The Dolores Huerta Foundation (DHF) is a growing 501(c)(3) non-profit
organization. Our mission is to inspire and organize communities to build volunteer
organizations empowered to pursue social justice. DHF is based in Bakersfield, California. We
organize in the counties of Tulare, Fresno, Kern, and the high desert area of Los Angeles
County. We are seeking Student Success Mentors who are passionate about supporting this
work.
Position Summary:
The Communications Director will guide the strategy for all communications, website, and public
relations messages and oversees the information that is made public, and ensures all
messaging is in alignment with the Foundations Mission Statement.
Position Responsibilities:
 Coordinate and implement frequent communications and updates, such as calls to
action, updates and promotion of DHF’s work to donors and supporters.
 Oversee regular social media and website updates regarding DHF projects, campaigns,
and successes, calls to action and promotion of DHF’s work.
 Write and send media advisories, press releases, make outreach calls to the press to
encourage attendance at DHF events, create press packets, establish relationships with
members of the press, regularly update the DHF press list, and track DHF press hits and
promote on social media.
 Train staff on communications with the press and best practices for messaging; assist
staff members in preparing for press interviews.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experiences:
 Bachelor’s Degree in creative writing or related field (relevant experience can substitute
for education requirement.
 2+ years’ experience in a management position
 Proficient in measuring and reaching income goals
 A proactive solutions-oriented approach
 Excellent interpersonal skills (one on one and group dynamics), cultural competency,
strong listening skills, and personable
 Patience and flexibility
 Excellent team player
 Written and spoken proficiency in Spanish & English
 Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, Videoconference, google drive, & on-line navigation
 Self-motivated, resourceful, and creative
 Ability to work evenings and weekends
 Strong collaborator, team player, able to adapt quickly to changing situations

 Time management skills
 Self-confidence and self-assurance

and the public. Bilingual (Spanish and English) applicants preferred.

faced with difficult situations. Strives for immediate address.
